This post concludes our Coroplast signs series by providing an overview. We give a brief summary of all the other posts in the series. We hope you can use the series as a foundation to gain a better understanding of Coroplast and its many uses. Contact Westmount Signs today for answers to all your questions about Coroplast and other signage materials.

What is Coroplast?

This post defines Coroplast as a type of corrugated plastic, similar to corrugated cardboard, that is both lightweight and strong. The product derives its name from the patented product originally produced by Coroplast LLC, which developed Coroplast. The company operates plants in the United States and Canada.

The article demonstrates some of the key uses of Coroplast including, but not limited to yard signs, real estate signs, new business signs, A-frames, event signs, political signs, and fence signs. Also mentioned is Coroplast’s versatility and effectiveness in advertising that generates more business for its users.

Why Use Coroplast Signs?

coroplast1The second post in the series provides some reasons Coroplast is an excellent and popular choice for signage. It points out that it is visually appealing, adaptable to both indoor and outdoor uses, and cost effective. The article compares Coroplast to other materials such as cardstock, cardboard, and plastic sheeting, demonstrating that it has significant advantages.

In addition, the post provides some useful information about different ways that you can use Coroplast signs. If you are still unsure if Coroplast is the right choice for you, simply contact us for more information and advice.

Having provided a description of what Coroplast is made of, and mentioning its basic construction, this post provides even more potential uses for the product. These include point of purchase displays, floor signs, retail toppers, and life-size cut-outs.

A series of attractive photographs are provided to help visualize what these uses might look like. Coroplast has many more uses than even those described in this series of posts. If you have an idea for how to use the product to benefit your business or organization, you can trust us to turn your idea into reality.

Coroplast Signs Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge

This article, entitled, “Coroplast Signs Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge,” summarizes in two main paragraphs both the benefits of Coroplast signs, and the types of locations where they can be used. Coroplast printing can be carried out in a wide range of colours due to product’s white surface.

The product’s versatility includes its resistance to bending or breaking; a limited amount of resistance to rain and sun damage; its printability; and resistance to fading or rubbing. These attributes make it ideal for indoor use, and suitable for some short term outdoor use – despite being primarily intended for indoor use. Finally, the post suggests that it is an excellent signage option for business owners in the Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge areas.

What Is Coroplast Made Of?

Coroplast has a similar appearance to cardboard. That’s why sometimes it is referred to as plastic cardboard. The product is made of  polypropylene or polypropylene copolymer plastics sheets. The sheets are extruded so that they resemble corrugated cardboard. In place of the wavy or curvy appearance of cardboard, however, Coroplast is formed with square channels known as flutes. The flutes can run horizontally or vertically depending on the customer’s needs.

where to buy coroplastWhat Is Coroplast Used For?

The product can be used for a wide variety of purposes ranging from shipping boxes to model airplanes. However, it is probably best known for its use in the signage industry. In our previous post, we examined some potential sign uses for Coroplast. Listed below are a selection of signage uses for the product.

An important note to remember is that these signs are good for both indoor and outdoor applications. Although not suitable for long term outdoor signage, Coroplast is strong enough to withstand all but the worst weather. The product is also water resistant making it ideal even in damp, rainy or snowy weather.

Point of Purchase Displays

This image from Garden Centre Marketing is a great example of how Coroplast can be used in a point of purchase display. The sign is bright and colorful, immediately catching the eye. It can easily be used to create point of purchase display signage to attract attention to new products, promotional products, special features and more.

To the right is another point of purchase display. coroplast This one is a self-standing unit Pinned by Ondřej Bahula | Onto POS/POP displays and built to present Air Wick products in an eye-catching manner.
The various component parts of the display are constructed of Coroplast. These parts are assembled, usually on site, to create a sturdy display unit. Although lightweight in construction, Coroplast is strong and durable, making it an excellent choice for this type of unit.

Bring your idea to us at Westmount Signs and we will work with you to design and manufacture the signs that you require.

coroplastFloor Signs

Floor signs are a common way to attract interest in your business. Simple to design and build, they often have a fold-out flap at the back of the sign or are created for use with an A-Frame.
Check out this one that we created for KW Redeemer.  These signs are inexpensive and easy to produce, making them great for retail stores, hairdressers, restaurants, non-profits, and many other types of businesses and organizations.  The signs can easily be removed from the A-Frame and replaced with a new message when your requirements change.

Retail Topperscoroplast

The example in the image to the right is for gas pump toppers, but consider the wide range of uses that the retail industry has for toppers. They can be attached to racks, spinners, counter displays – you name it, Coroplast can do it. To get your project rolling, simply contact us at Westmount Signs and we will walk you through the entire process.

Although there are better choices for long term signs, Coroplast’s adaptability makes it an excellent choice for many short-term uses – both indoors and temporarily, outdoors. The product is cost-effective yet provides a strong visual presence. Its benefits include the fact that it is a lightweight product, making it easy to handle, yet effective in a variety of situations. Coroplast’s light quality can be attributed to its corrugated plastic structure. This innovative structure allows the product to blend both strength and durability with a lightweight construction. Indoor And Outdoor Use

This versatile product is suitable for both indoor and temporary outdoor use. Simple vinyl graphics can be applied to the product, allowing you to present your message to your customers. The product can be cut to a wide variety of sizes and used in a variety of ways. Coroplast is tougher than cardboard, fibreboard, and card stock. It is also considerably lighter than solid plastic signs. Although often used as temporary signage, Coroplast is durable enough to last for up to two years in the outdoors, although due to its lightness, it can be susceptible to extremely high winds. The product can be cleaned easily, is stain resistant, and waterproof.

What Should My Coroplast Sign Look Like?

Coroplast can be cut to any sign size you require and comes in a variety of colours. This allows you to create a simple design with a simple message or let your creative juices flow with something more intricate. Signs can be used to display your business name, advertise a special, announce an upcoming event, provide directions, direct business traffic, provide temporary information, display restaurant specials, and so much more. The Value of Attractive Exterior Signs

Think about it. How many times have you entered a business location because the sign was well-placed, attractive, and informative? Consider your business and how many competitors you have in your market. Many businesses are competing with a half dozen similar business within a few blocks. If your sign is unappealing then you are letting your competitors have an advantage over you. First impressions are important, and that goes for business signs too. If you are considering a new business sign, then contact us to see what we have to offer.

Cost Effective Window Lettering & Graphics

Window lettering and graphics are relatively quick and easy to produce. They create an attractive, visually appealing sign that is cost-effective.

They help to reinforce branding while communicating quickly and clearly with your customer. An added benefit is that they provide a certain amount of privacy.

Graphic signs can be offered with a complete installation package. Explore our window lettering and graphics page here.

Three-Dimensional Signsexterior signs

Three-dimensional signs are valuable for the texture and interest that they create.

By throwing off shadows, they add depth and provide solidity and perspective. These types of signs can be created in all shapes and sizes and are relatively inexpensive to produce. They can be plain or backlit for further colour enhancement.

Great for plazas or large, stand-alone properties and as a marketing tool, they are effective at getting your business noticed by your potential customers.

a frameConsider Your Building and Your Neighbourhood

What style of building are you in? Match your signage to the type of property. For example, LED signage that is suitable for a take-out restaurant may not suit an office situated in a renovated older historic building. Perhaps you might want signage that is more subtle and has a more vintage appeal.

Backlit signs are ubiquitous in plazas and may even be part of your lease agreement.

Also, take into consideration what you are seeking to accomplish. An A-Frame on the sidewalk is an excellent way to attract casual passers-by into a bakery, a coffee bar or restaurant.

exterior signsKeeping It Simple Can Be Best

Sometimes less is more. The clean, simple lines of this traditional sign stand out against very clearly against the dark background.

This business wants to showcase their brand, which is one of the most successful in Europe, to potential North American customers. It also lets their business partners know they have found the correct location.

Cost effective, this sign gets the job done with a minimum of fuss.

get noticedThe Right Colours

Ensuring that you have the right palette of colours is important if you want your signs to get noticed in a crowded environment like a busy street or retail neighbourhood. In this case, you should take advantage of bright, bold, attention-grabbing colours that won’t get lost in the crowd.

However, it is also important to take a look at your current branding. If you plan to use your existing logo and branding, make sure the colour palette you plan to use on your new signage isn’t overwhelming.

Remember that colours create and enhance moods and environments, so subtle colours can work best if you are looking to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The sign above conveys peace, calm, and serenity, which is exactly the right kind of atmosphere for a medical centre and pharmacy.

A Sign’s Function

Make sure that your sign accomplishes that which it is intended to do.FancyAframe_244x244 If its purpose is to provide information, make sure that the correct information is displayed. If your sign is intended to provide direction, then ensure that the instructions are clear and not confusing. When a sign’s primary purpose is to warn of danger, make sure that the sign is very noticeable, with eye-catching colours, and that its line of sight is not obstructed in any way.

Obviously, signs can fulfil many other roles than we have listed, but the key point remains – make sure that the sign is designed in such a way that the reader cannot fail to understand its function! This sign on the right meets those requirements. Who could fail to understand that hot lunches are available and that the reader only has to follow the large, red arrow!

Photo 2015-10-19, 12 48 03The Bigger The Better

Many business owners are finding that outdoor signs can really add to their exposure, by drawing people into their businesses, increasing their sales, and improving their bottom line. It makes sense then, that with these signs, bigger is generally better. Larger signs that are both professionally designed, and well constructed, are almost always better at catching people’s attention than smaller ones. Trying to ignore a large sign that draws the eye is difficult. The sign on the left accomplishes this with its bold font.

Keep It Short

Don’t try to cram too much information on a sign. In the case of a sign, less is more. If it is an outdoor sign, remember that some people may be driving by and unable to read, or digest, a lot of information. It is better then, to limit your sign to the least amount of information that your potential customers need in order to make a decision.

The example below does just that, providing the business name, and their business activities in three words and a simple graphic.

get noticed

Choice Of Font

Your choice of font conveys a wealth of important information about you, your business and your personality. Always make sure that your font fits in well with your brand image. For example, if you want to project a serious, reliable, professional image then don’t choose a light, flowery font!

Consider also the size and colour of the font or fonts that you are using. Think about the materials that you plan to use, and whether or not they will be 3D. If you are unsure about how to choose a font, ask an expert for advice. The sign for a pizza restaurant below uses a palette that is reminiscent of the Italian flag while the 3D letters stand out from the building and project towards the potential customer. Read more about font choice here.

5. Do Not Enter

Makes sense right? Without context, this sign seems completely useless. How are you supposed to enter if the door doesn’t open? We can only assume this is some sort of automatic door that needs to be opened from the other side and they’ve had people attempt to bust through the door even when the door doesn’t open, but whatever the case this sign is sure to draw an initial chuckle from anyone who reads it.

4. $200 Fine

If there’s any sign that’s going to be effective in stopping you from touching a wire this would be it. Not only do they warn you that making contact with the wires will cause death, but what’s even worse is that you’ll also be charged a $200 fine. If death isn’t enough to scare you away surely taking a hit to your bank account will do the trick. The Newcastle Tramway Authority will probably have no trouble keeping people from touching their wiring anytime soon.

3. Think of the animals

Clearly the owners of this sign are more concerned with the well-being of the animals in the zoo than the life of their customers. This sign is a great twist on the classic “do not climb the fences” sign by insinuating that the health of their animals should not be affected as a result of your own bad choices.

2. Sharp Edges

We can only assume that this sign wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, but it certainly does a good job of drawing attention with its clearly humorous message. The worrisome part is that there is an actual warning on this sign at the bottom where it states, “also, the bridge is out ahead.” If this sign was actually used to warn oncoming vehicles that a bridge was out it’s probably the most ineffective sign on this list. Despite the fact that it would be almost entirely ineffective the dry humour incorporated by the sign is simply too much to leave it off this list.

1. No “P” in our “OOL”

Hygiene is always a concern in public pools and the owners of this sign wanted to make sure they did their best to keep it that way. This sign is likely to catch the eyes of passersby who believe that either the “P” fell off the sign or the makers of the sign accidentally misspelled “pool”, only to find out that it was no mistake but a cleverly designed sign that certainly gets the point across effectively. We think this ool sign is ositively erfect!

#5. Keyboard Cat for President

In 2012, somebody apparently thought that Keyboard Cat might make a better president than those actually running. What we find hilarious about this particular sign is the choice of Keyboard Cat as the nomination. Instead of choosing a representative who might be huge in pop culture at the time, they instead chose to throw it back to an old meme from 2007, causing us all to remember this video:

It brings us back to a simpler time and makes us long for more nonsensical humour in our lives. We’re behind this candidate 100% if they ever decide to run again.

4. Megatron

During the hype of the recent resurgence of the Transformers franchise, somebody took it upon themselves to bring the violence from the movies down to the political level. Part of the humour found here is obvious satire. Megatron is noted for not being much of a conversationalist, rather he just takes what he wants (or at least he tries to), so we can’t really see politics being his thing. The thought of him suiting up for a political debate is pretty funny and would definitely not end well for anyone involved. If he managed to win, well… that wouldn’t be good for any of us really. Sorry Megatron, you’ll have to find somebody else to support your campaign.

3. Eduction

Oh, Mr. Pearce. It appears that though you may have received a Golden Apple Award in “Eduction”, you didn’t receive a Golden Keyboard Award for spell check. The irony of this mistake is really what brought this sign to attention in 2012, and the fact that the error wasn’t actually even part of the original sign but something that was attached afterwards made it so much better. Also, add in the fact that the word “eduction” means “something that draws or brings out” (much like this sign was able to draw our attention) and you’ve got the home run of spelling errors. It may have had an impact on his campaign as well as Mr. Pearce went on to lose his state senate seat to Bob Worsley.

2. The Anti-Rob Ford Signs

Much like other comedians did at the time of the infamous Rob Ford incident over a year ago, a group of anti-Rob Ford enthusiasts decided to create a few fake election signs taking a jab at Toronto’s former mayor. The results were pretty hilarious. Their sense of humour was clearly to take jabs at the mayor’s acts by saying the supposed candidates will participate in some of the same actions that Mr.Ford was but in a much more effective way. Their political point being that though these fake candidates seem like awful selections for mayor, they’re actually committing no actions worse than those Rob Ford had already done. It’s a great use of comedy to get a point across though I’m sure Mr. Ford was none to pleased about it.

1. So Much Debt!

Putting a baby on an election sign is a sure fire way to gather some attention, I mean they’re just so darn cute! But throw in a bit of diaper humour and you’ve got yourself a bonafide election sign. We’re not quite sure what this sign was used for, but we can only assume that Mr. Chaney was running for a position which had already accumulated a pile of debt. Whichever way this election sign was used, it was sure used in good fun. Definitely one of the most playful election signs we’ve ever come across, and we think it speaks of Mr. Chaney’s character, as well that he’s willing to have a bit of fun with his campaign.

Types of Signage

In choosing an outdoor sign you have two options: storefront signs or roadside signs. Each can be customized with lighting to allow night advertising. For a full list of our signage options, click here.

Storefront

vinylletteringIf a customer is looking for your location, a storefront sign will help direct them to the right building. Signs that are directly attached to the front of your store can be lit for night advertising or left as they are depending on whether your location and type of business would make this possible or beneficial.

Individual cut letters are by far the most appealing signage option and can be lit in several different ways. Click here to read more about how they work! Variations on this type of sign can be implemented to give your business whatever it needs most.

Roadside

Window Graphic 3A roadside sign’s main job is to advertise. Many businesses will use a roadside sign to display messages for their customers, such as hours of operation, special offers, events, and contact information. This signage can be electronic or a reader boards.

A freestanding sign without additional text can be illuminated at night with LED lights to draw attention. Illuminated roadside signs are especially useful if your business’ building is located far away from the main roads or other businesses. In this regard, it can be likened to a beacon for customers!
